Khwesi Ejekwu

Receiving the ISFAP/EXXARO bursary has truly been a life-changing experience in many ways. Pursuing a quality higher education was a significant financial burden for my family, especially in a city like Cape Town, where the cost of living is high. This bursary has not only eased this financial strain on me but has also brought immense relief to my family.

My first year at the University of Cape Town was filled with anxiety and uncertainty about how my parents would manage to afford such immense expenses. This constant worry took an emotional toll on me, making it difficult to focus on my studies, knowing that it was so hard for my parents.

Beyond the financial support, this bursary has empowered me in ways I never imagined. It has shown me that I am capable of achieving great things and has boosted my confidence in my abilities. Before receiving this opportunity, I struggled with self-doubt and often questioned whether my best efforts were ever enough. Repeated rejections had made me feel like my dreams were out of reach. But being selected for this bursary was a turning point—it proved to me that I am worthy and capable of more than I had ever believed.

This year, my first year being funded, has been a resounding success. I have accomplished things I never thought possible, both academically and personally. It has taught me to trust in myself and to recognize that good things take time and perseverance. The support I’ve received has allowed me to focus fully on my studies and to thrive in ways I never imagined.

I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity, and I look forward to continuing to grow, learn, and make the most of this amazing opportunity.
